Our Mission and Values

Understand . Support . Flourish

We believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—and that starts with curiosity, not judgment.

The Children's Psychology Hub exists to make evidence-based psychology accessible wherever children and families need it—not just in clinics, but in homes, schools, libraries, museums, and communities.

Curiosity, not judgment.

We believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—and that starts with curiosity, not judgment.

The Children's Psychology Hub exists to make evidence-based psychology accessible wherever children and families need it—not just in clinics, but in homes, schools, libraries, museums, and communities.

What this means in practice:

For children:

  • Psychology that makes sense to them—developmentally appropriate, jargon-free

  • Resources that help them understand their own feelings and experiences

  • Approaches that respect neurodiversity and difference

  • Space to explore without shame or pressure

For parents:

  • Clear explanations of why children behave the way they do

  • Evidence-based information without academic jargon

  • Understanding diagnosis, assessments, and psychology reports

  • Strategies grounded in understanding, not just behaviour management

For professionals:

  • Training that explains the psychology behind challenging behaviour

  • Understanding trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, and grief

  • Evidence-based approaches you can implement immediately

  • Resources that translate research into practice

We value:

Lived experience alongside clinical expertise, recognising that families navigating disability, neurodivergence, and mental health challenges hold knowledge that can't be found in textbooks. We value neurodiversity-affirming approaches that work with difference, not against it. We value cultural humility and context—understanding that each family's story is shaped by culture, identity, migration, and belonging. And we value curiosity over control, always asking "why is this happening?" before jumping to "how do we stop this?"

Support at Every Level

What we believe:

What this means in practice:

Direct Support For Children and Young People

  • Therapy that's creative, collaborative, and child-led (not compliance-focused)

  • Play-based work for younger children

  • Conversation and reflection for teens

  • Approaches tailored to individual needs, not manuals

Direct Support For Parents/Caregivers:

  • Consultations without your child present

  • Space to process your own feelings

  • Strategies that actually work for your family

  • Understanding, not judgment

For Professionals and Organisations:

  • Training for schools, museums, libraries, activity providers, charities, funeral services and more!

  • SENCO consultations for complex cases

  • Reflective practice for staff teams

  • Building capacity to support wellbeing in-house

Accessible Resources:

  • Free Flourish Magazine - monthly psychology for parents and professionals

  • Low-cost worksheets (£1.50-£2) - removing financial barriers

  • Online and in-person services - reducing geographical barriers

  • No waiting lists for consultations - accessible when you need it

Mental wellbeing support shouldn't only exist in clinics or require crisis-level need. Support should be accessible, affordable, and available wherever children and families are.

We value:

Accessibility over exclusivity—removing financial, geographical, and systemic barriers so support reaches families who need it most. We value prevention over crisis intervention, believing early support and psychoeducation can change trajectories before difficulties escalate. We value community support over viewing struggles as individual pathology, recognising that children flourish when whole systems—families, schools, communities—understand and respond to their needs. And we value systemic change over simply "fixing" individual children, working to create environments where all children can thrive.

Flourish Together

What we believe:

What this means in practice:

Children and Young People Flourish When They:

  • Understand their own feelings and needs

  • Have tools to manage overwhelming emotions

  • Feel safe, seen, and supported by adults around them

  • Experience environments (home, school, community) that respect their needs

  • Build emotional literacy and coping skills that last beyond childhood

Parents/Caregivers Flourish When They:

  • Feel confident navigating challenges

  • Understand what's happening and why

  • Have strategies grounded in psychology, not punishment

  • Feel supported, not judged

  • Can access help before crisis point

Professionals and Organisations Flourish When:

  • Feel equipped to support children's mental health

  • Understand the psychology behind behavior

  • Have practical tools and approaches

  • Work in systems that value wellbeing

  • Access reflective practice and support for themselves

Communities Flourish When:

  • Mental wellbeing is normalised, not stigmatised

  • Support is accessible in everyday spaces

  • Psychology is understood, not gatekept

  • Children can access help without barriers

Children flourish when the adults around them feel confident, competent, and empowered. Mental wellbeing isn't just the absence of difficulty—it's the presence of skills, understanding, and connection.

We value:

Hopeful, strengths-based approaches that see what's working alongside what's difficult. We value building capacity in children, families, and professionals—not creating dependency on services or experts. We value long-term wellbeing over short-term compliance, knowing that sustainable change comes from understanding and skill-building, not behavior control. And we value children truly thriving, not just surviving—developing emotional literacy, resilience, and connection that lasts well beyond childhood.
